Lead-Based Paint Testing and Analysis Kits

Lead-Based Paint Testing and Analysis Kits

If you live in a home built before 1992, there’s a good chance it contains lead-based paint. When left untouched, lead paint is generally unharmful, but if the surface is disturbed during home improvements, accidental consumption of paint flakes or inhalation of lead dust can pose a number of risks, especially for young children and pregnant women. Symptoms can include headaches, insomnia and nausea, among others.

What’s Included in the Kit:

Our lead-based paint testing and analysis kit comes with all the personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to safely take a sample of suspected lead-based paint from your property. Once received, the sample will then be analysed in our own in-house UKAS 17025 accredited laboratory, and a certificate of analysis will be issued to you within 3 working days.

Included in our kit you’ll find the following:

  • Disposable gloves
  • Cleaning wipes to ensure sample tools are kept clean
  • Labelled grip lock polythene sample bags
  • Pre-addressed return envelope for lab analysis
  • Sample submission form
  • Detailed and easy-to-follow instructions

Collecting Samples:

Avoid scraping or sanding paint until testing is complete. Wear gloves during the collection process and work in well-ventilated areas, limiting contact with the paint surface. For areas with deteriorating paint, professional assistance is strongly recommended.

Areas where lead in paint is likely to be found include:

  • Steelworks
  • Railings, downpipes
  • Wood works, window frames, skirtings and door frames
